Superior-Host Customer Guide

Accessing Your Site by IP Number:

You can access your site while you are waiting for your DNS to propagate to your new web hosting account. There is no reason to wait and have your site not there when it begins to work at our machine.

In your welcome e-mail, up near the top, you will see your sites IP number listed. Also, a bit lower, you will see the link to your Control Panel listed with your domain name, and also with your IP. You can go into your control panel, and set up your email, set up forums, and shopping carts, and many of the cgi scripts that are available. However, you may not access your web mail functions with an IP number.

You can FTP to your site by IP number and upload your sites content as well. Just put the IP numbers in the line that says: Host Name

You can access your site to make sure the pages and images uploaded properly by going to: http://66.103.35.2 - but replace the numbers with the numbers sent in your welcome e-mail. Do NOT ty to access your site by IP number with the WWW in front of it, like this; http://www.yourIP number - It won't work. Just use the http://yourIPnumber as the example above shows.

Note, that most of your cgi scripts will not work until your domain name is working at our servers. This is because if you set them up through the control panel, it puts in your domain name in the configuration files. If you set it up manually, and put the sites IP number in the config file, then you can check its operation before the DNS has propagated though.

By using your sites IP number, you can have your web site ready to go, when your DNS has propagated to your new web hosting account on our servers.
