Superior-Host Customer Guide

Setting up your FTP Client:

There are several FTP programs (Clients) available for you to use. We will show you how to set up the most popular version. Most others are very similar, and have most of the same settings.

First, open WS_FTP. Then, you should have a "Sessions Properties" box pop up. If not, click on connect, and it will open it.

Next, click the New button. This will give you a blank window with lines to fill in.

The first line is: Profile Name: Most people put MySite, or simply your domain name. This is just to let YOU know what this session is.

The next line is Host Name / Address: You can use your domain name, or your IP number. Make sure you do not add any http:// or www. They do not belong here, those are for web browsers.
Put domain.com or the IP number sent to you in your welcome e-mail. If your domain is not working at our server yet, then use your IP number on this line.

The next line says: Host Type: This is best set at Automatic Detect.

Then, it asks for your Urser ID: This is the user name we sent to you in your welcome e-mail.
Do not check the Anonymous check box.

Now, the Password: If you have not gone into your control panel and changed the password, then it is the one we sent you in your welcome e-mail.
There is a check box to the right of this line. If you check it, it will save your password so you do not have to enter it every time you FTP to your site. This is NOT a good idea if you are at an office PC that has others using it when your not there.

The next two lines, account and comment are not needed. There is no need to do anything with them.
At this point, hit the Apply button. That will save your settings.

Ok, if you have done everything correctly, when you hit the OK button, it will connect you to your web sites Root web directory.

Most FTP Clients are for the most part just as easy to set up and the settings are mostly the same.

If you use Dreamweaver, CoffeeCup, or another HTML editing program that uploads your files for you, follow their directions, and remember to get the files inside of the public_html. Most will ask for your "Starting Directory" , that would be where you enter "Public_html" to get it to send the files to your public_html directory.
