Netscape is a little more difficult to set up then outlook express, and makes managing multiple accounts harder, but many people prefer it due to the constant virus attacks against Outlook express users, simply because it is a Microsoft product.
Follow the directions below to set up netscape to use your e-mail account.
First, open your netscape browser. Then, click on the Edit menu to bring up the drop down list. Next, select preferences.
From the "Left Menu" select "Mail and Newsgroups", then click the + symbol, which displays a list of options.
Select Identity.
Now, you can enter your name, as you want it displayed to your recipients, and the e-mail address of the mail account. You may also enter your company name in the lower section. Do not enter a reply to, e-mail address if you want them to e-mail you back at this one.
Next, from the main menu on the left, select the Mail Servers link.
Here, you will enter your incoming mail server information. Your server name; mail.yourdomain.com , and select the POP3 server in the server type list. Then, enter your user name for the e-mail account. This is the full e-mail address... not just the first part. ie; steve is not valid, while steve@yourdomain.com is.
If you are setting this up for your Default/Catch all e-mail account, then you would use just your control panels user name here, and not username@yourdomain.com. It is the only exception.
Now, you need to set up your outgoing or SMTP server. To do this, click on the mail servers link again, and this will bring back a new window. You will see your incoming mail server listed above. Go to the lower section and enter the Outgoing (SMTP) server: mail.yourdomain.com
and your outgoing e-mail user name which is again your full e-mail address. (unless your setting up your default mail account)
Now, also click the button that says NEVER for using secure authentication.
Now, you should be able to close out all the menus and open up the netscape e-mail client. Send a test e-mail and see if you can send and receive it or if there is any problems. Most likely it will work just fine.
If you can't send it, but you can get e-mail you sent from another e-mail address, to your new account, then you most likely need to change your SMTP settings to your ISPs SMTP mail server.
The reason is simple. With so much junk e-mail flooding the internet now days, ISPs have come to use any means they can to block as much of it as possible. They may block you from being able to send through any other SMTP server so they can easily track abusers and turn them off.
To get around that, just go back to your servers tab, and put in the SMTP server that they tell you to use with your e-mail account with them. This is just the server that sends the e-mail, and it will not change how your customers see the e-mail. They will still see your domain as the sender.
PLEASE NOTE:
We have a zero tolerance for spam.
If you have large lists to send to, it is best to use your ISPs SMTP server, since they are better set up to handle large amounts of e-mail. Our primary function is hosting web sites, and an overage of e-mail causes the servers to slow down. It is provided as a courtesy, for all of our customers, so please do not abuse it.
