Setting up outlook express is not too hard to do. Just follow the instructions below, and you will be set up and ready to go in no time.
First, open outlook express on your computer. Then, on the top of your window you will see the tools menu... click it.
Next, click on Accounts
Now, a little window pops up with a list of all your e-mail accounts that you have set up in outlook express. On the right side of that smaller window, you will see a link that says New, hold your mouse over it, and you will have a list come up... click on e-mail.
This opens up the mail wizard which will almost walk you completely though the set up of your e-mail account.
The first thing is your name. This is what you want people to see in their e-mail program as the senders name. This can be your name, ie; John Smith, or your company name, or department, like Rosco Sales Team.
Next, you will get the e-mail account name box. Check the upper check box that says "I already have an e-mail account" then enter in the e-mail address that you created in your mail manager.
The next page takes you to the e-mail Servers Page. Put in mail.yourdomain.com on both the POP3 and SMTP lines. For example, ours is mail.superior-host.com .
Next, you enter in your account log in info.
Your account user name is the FULL E-MAIL ADDRESS, ie; admin@superior-host.com is my user name for that mail account. The password is the one you made when you created the e-mail account in your mail menu, and not your control panel password.
The exception to the user name and password is only with your default/catch all e-mail account. If you choose to get the e-mail from your default e-mail account, then the user name and password are exactly what you use for getting into your control panel. ie, the user name is just the first part of the e-mail address and not the full e-mail address this time.
Now, click the finish button,, but your not done yet.
You will close the wizard when you click finish, and you will still have your account settings box open showing your new e-mail account. Click on the new e-mail account twice, to open its properties box. Or, click once to highlight it and then click the properties button on the right side.
Now, you have a new little window open. Click on the top tab that says "Servers".
Go all the way to the bottom of that servers tab area, and click the check box that says "My server requires authentication"
DO NOT CHECK THE ONE ABOVE THAT SAYS SECURE AUTHENTICATION.
That is all there is to it. You can set up as many e-mail accounts as you need with outlook express.
Now, test your e-mail set up, by sending a test message to your new account,,, from your new account. If it sends, and you can receive it, then you are done.
If you can't send it, but you can get e-mail you sent from another e-mail address, to your new account, then you most likely need to change your SMTP settings to your ISPs SMTP mail server.
The reason is simple. With so much junk e-mail flooding the internet now days, ISPs have come to use any means they can to block as much of it as possible. They may block you from being able to send through any other SMTP server so they can easily track abusers and turn them off.
To get around that, just go back to your servers tab, and put in the SMTP server that they tell you to use with your e-mail account with them. This is just the server that sends the e-mail, and it will not change how your customers see the e-mail. They will still see your domain as the sender.
PLEASE NOTE:
We have a zero tolerance for spam.
If you have large lists to send to, it is best to use your ISPs SMTP server, since they are better set up to handle large amounts of e-mail. Our primary function is hosting web sites, and an overage of e-mail causes the servers to slow down. It is provided as a courtesy, for all of our customers, so please do not abuse it.
